Recliner Slipcover

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to make recliner slipcovers, and it will do the furniture a lot of good, like prolong its life. The following instructions show how you can make such a cover.

Required Tools and Materials

Sewing machine
Scissors
Fabric pins
Slipcover fabric
Recliner
Measuring tape

Step 1

Use the tape measure to get the recliner’s dimensions. Be certain the measurements are exact regardless of the angle. Accuracy is crucial regardless whether the chair is regularly or irregularly shaped.

Step 2

Choose the fabric you will use. The color, pattern and texture are up to you. After you have chosen, place the fabric on the surface close to the recliner. To avoid problems, get at least double the amount of cover fabric you need. This will provide you with room to make up for errors in measurements.

Step 3

Put the cover fabric over the chair. Pin it on the angles based on the measurements you took earlier. Perform this in steps (top of the chair, couch back etc). It is all right if the fabric isn’t that tight. An inch hem allowance on the furniture is recommended.

Step 4

Take the fabric off the chair. Fasten the hems to the pin locations using the sewing machine. Take out the pins one at a time as you make the recliner slipcover. Double check to make sure the angle is correct.

Step 5

Position the cover at the chair as you start sewing the hems. This is the only way to know for sure it will fit. First time makers will probably need to make a few adjustments here and there but you will eventually get it right.

Step 6

After the sewing is finished put the cover on the recliner. Secure it in place with a needle and thread.

Tips and Warnings

Take your time with the measurements because the wrong figures will make it impossible to fit the fabric. Once you have made the first fabric, the rest will be easy. You can now start looking at the different options you can use for other seasons and occasions. If it helps, use a pen and paper to keep a record of all the measurements.

The process of making recliner slipcovers is not as complicated as it seems. Once the process starts you will be amazed at how quickly the whole procedure goes. It won’t be long before you start making several of these quickly and in a rapid fashion.
